The facts, in one place
A few details are often reported wrongly. These are the ones to use.

- Born in Jolo, Sulu, and raised in Zamboanga City. Tausug.
- Restaurants
- Palm Grill, since 2017 (Tomas Morato, Quezon City; Araneta City; Zamboanga City opening 2026). Cabel, since 2022, in the Casa Roces house in San Miguel, Manila, run with his brother King and sister Isabel.
- MICHELIN
- Palm Grill (Diliman) and Cabel each received a Bib Gourmand in the first Philippine MICHELIN Guide (Manila and Environs & Cebu 2026) and kept it in the second (2027). He is the first Tausug chef the Guide has recognised. A Bib Gourmand is not a star: please don’t write “Michelin-starred”.

Bios
Short bio
Miguel “Miggy” Cabel Moreno is a Tausug chef from Jolo, Sulu. He runs Palm Grill, opened in 2017 as the first restaurant in Luzon devoted to Southern Mindanao food, and Cabel, a Filipino heritage restaurant across from Malacañang. Both received a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand in 2026 and again in 2027, and he is the first Tausug chef the Guide has recognised.
Long bio
Miguel “Miggy” Cabel Moreno was born in Jolo, Sulu, and raised in Zamboanga City, and learned to cook at eight in his grandmother’s open kitchen. He trained and worked as a nurse before opening Palm Grill on Tomas Morato in 2017, the first restaurant in Luzon given over to the food of Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. In 2022, with his brother King and sister Isabel, he opened Cabel, a Filipino heritage restaurant in the 1930s Casa Roces house across from Malacañang. In the first Philippine MICHELIN Guide, both restaurants received a Bib Gourmand, making him the first Tausug chef the Guide has recognised, and both kept it in the 2027 edition; and the House of Representatives commended his work in Resolution No. 872. He was featured on Netflix’s I Love Filipino. He co-wrote the children’s book Ang Kwento ni Putli Mandi with Nelson Canlas, and is the boy in Si Migoy, Ang Batang Tausug, written by Canlas and his sister Isabel.
